What Is ServiceOps?

ServiceOps is about keeping services healthy end to end, from the user's request to the database query behind it. This guide explains what service operations covers.

ServiceOps (Service Operations) is the practice of keeping application services healthy and performant end to end: observing logs, traces, metrics and APM across services, mapping dependencies, and resolving service-level incidents before they reach users.

End-to-end service visibility

A single user request often crosses many services, queues and databases. ServiceOps stitches that journey together with distributed tracing, correlates logs across services, and maps dependencies, so when something is slow or failing, you can see where in the chain the problem actually is, not just that a symptom appeared.

Service health and performance

Beyond visibility, ServiceOps tracks service health, latency and error rates, and query performance, catching degradation before it becomes an outage. It is the discipline that keeps the services users actually touch fast and reliable.

From observing to resolving

Seeing a service problem is only half the job. Autonomous ServiceOps takes the correlated, root-caused incident and resolves it, restarting, rerouting or applying a fix, under governance, rather than paging an engineer for a known failure pattern.

How Ops Singularity approaches it

Ops Singularity's ServiceOps pillar provides end-to-end service observability, distributed tracing and dependency topology, and resolves service incidents through Sentinel AI and governed Action Tickets. Explore the ServiceOps pillar.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between ServiceOps and observability?

Observability provides the data, logs, metrics and traces, to understand service behaviour. ServiceOps is the operational practice that uses that data to keep services healthy and, in its autonomous form, to resolve service incidents.

Is ServiceOps the same as APM?

APM (Application Performance Monitoring) is a key part of ServiceOps, focused on application performance. ServiceOps is broader, covering service health, dependencies, logs and resolution across the whole service estate.
