What Is Real User Monitoring (RUM)?

RUM measures the experience your real users are having, in their real browsers, on their real networks.

Real User Monitoring (RUM) captures performance and experience data from actual users' browsers or mobile apps, page load times, web vitals, errors and interactions, so you see what real people actually experience rather than a synthetic approximation.

What it captures

RUM instruments the client, the browser or mobile app, to report timings and events: page and resource load times, core web vitals, JavaScript errors, and user interactions. Because it comes from real sessions, it reflects the full diversity of devices, networks and geographies your users actually have.

Why it matters

Server-side metrics can look perfect while users on slow devices or distant networks suffer, and only the client can see front-end rendering and JavaScript errors. RUM captures that last mile of experience, and pairs naturally with synthetic monitoring (consistent proactive checks) and back-end tracing (server-side causes).
